Pinot Noir
Platt Vineyard, 2016

$ 70.00$ 142.00

Joan and Lew Platt planted these vines for us to work with on their property overlooking the town of Bodega. A very cool site with intelligently selected plant material that is well farmed is a Pinot Noir maker’s dream. Red, black and blue fruit character with great structure, minerality and complexity are the result.

Winemaker's Notes

We were one of the lucky handful of wineries who were in on the ground floor with this wonderful site. I have bottled Platt Vineyard Pinot Noirs beginning in 2007. Sometimes some of the fruit has become part of our Sonoma Coast bottlings. But I save the finest parts to make a compelling and age worthy wine that personifies this grape grown within view of the Pacific Ocean near Bodega Bay.

Peony blossom, black pepper, rose hips, fresh beet with a seriously mouth-watering entry, great continuity and tremendous length. It is seriously built with a firmly woven structure of acidity and tannin that will support the wine for many years. Quite impressive in its youth, everything is in its place.

    The 2016 Pinot Noir Platt Vineyard shows why this vineyard is so highly regarded. Deep and pliant in the glass, the Platt possesses striking textural resonance and fabulous balance. Succulent dark cherry, plum, mint, spice and blood orange infuse the 2016 with tremendous depth. There is so much to like here. 95 points. Antonio Galloni

    Medium-light to medium ruby color; attractive, deep, ripe, earthy, red cherry and blueberry fruit aroma with hints of clove and vanilla; medium to medium-full body; deep, ripe, textured, nicely balanced, red and dark fruit flavors with bright acidity and pleasing richness in the elegant mouthfeel; medium tannin; lingering aftertaste. Shows some maturity and very enjoyable to taste now though still deserving a few more years of bottle aging. Very highly recommended. My score 92 points. Nick Ponomareoff
