Pinot Noir
Platt Vineyard, 2009

$ 80.00

Joan and Lew Platt planted these vines for us to work with on their property overlooking the town of Bodega. A very cool site with intelligently selected plant material that is well farmed is a Pinot Noir maker’s dream. Red, black and blue fruit character with great structure, minerality and complexity are the result.

Winemaker's Notes

Our third vintage from this special site farmed by special people, I am very excited by what we have been seeing from here. It is a wonderful convergence between old-world sensibility, new world cool-climate material informed by a typically generous and gentle fall season. 2009 gave us plenty of time to decide when to harvest and what kind of style we wanted to dress this beautiful entity with. I chose a slightly more generous path than the previous vintage. It still has the tension and great complexity of the past two vintages from this site. Blue, red and black fruits all take turns at center stage. Quite generous and concentrated, it should continue to improve over the next few years.

    Stephen Tanzer’s International Wine CellarMay 2012

    Vivid ruby-red. Wild, highly perfumed bouquet of blackberry, dried cherry, sassafras, smoked meat and Indian spices. Fleshy and deep, offering dark berry and licorice flavors lifted by zesty acidity. Sappy and focused on the impressively long finish, which strongly echoes the berry and licorice qualities. 92 points. Josh Raynolds

    California GrapevineMarch 2013

    Medium ruby; attractive, forward, fragrant, spicy, dark plum and black cherry aroma with light toasty notes and hints of black tea and clove; medium-full body; tight, herbal, complex, cherry and red berry fruit flavors with firm acidity; medium to medium-full tannin; lingering aftertaste. Developed depth and intensity as it aired in the glass. Very highly recommended. My score 92. Nick Ponomareff

    The 2009 Pinot Noir Platt Vineyard is ethereal, graceful and totally beautiful. Freshly cut flowers, mint, honey and pine are all woven together in a fabric of notable class and sheer purity. The 2009 has great persistence, energy and class from start to finish. the expressive aromatics and pure delineated flavors really stand out. 92 points. Antonio Galloni,

    A deeply pitched nose features ripe aromas of plum, black currant and plenty of spice influence. there is a excellent volume and mid-palate concentration to the bold big-bodied flavors that possess generous and suave mouth feel, all wrapped in a powerful, long and very serious finish. this built-to-age beauty is full-on yet well-balanced and should reward a decade of cellar time. 91/2019+ Allen Meadows
