Pinot Noir
Russian River Valley, 2013

$ 65.00$ 320.00

While grown primarily in the sandy Goldridge soil, which tends to produce Pinot Noir with flavors of red fruits and orange peel, this wine also illustrates some of the deep, brooding black cherry character generally found in the region’s clay soils. It was bottled without fining or filtration, and should age gracefully for a handful of years.

Winemaker's Notes

This wine is as significant to our portfolio as the Old & Mature Vine Zinfandel from the family’s vineyard. It is an illustration of blending beautiful things to create even more stunning beauty. This is the first vintage of this wine that I left in barrel on its initial lees after pressing for the entire 20-something month rest in barrel. I like the way the texture is somewhat enhanced and the elements are more thoroughly integrated. Orange peel and red fruits are front and center with some plumminess following. Nice medium body with very smooth texture is counterbalanced by appropriate structural acidity and tannin. It is just barely entering ‘the happy place’ and I am thrilled about its trajectory.

    The 2013 Pinot Noir (Russian River Valley) is another delicious appellation-level Pinot from Fred Scherrer. The intensity and exuberance of the Russian River comes through, and yet the wine is very much done in the Scherrer style that emphasizes finesse and grace. 89 points. Antonio Galloni

    Vibrant and suave, offering juicy red currant, raspberry and rooibos tea flavors that feature hints of cream. Pastry notes show on the finish, with medium-grained tannins. Drink now through 2022. 91 points. Kim Marcus
