Winemaker's Notes
With the 2008 Pinot Noir vintage, I could be accused of saving the best for last to release. I am pleased that this vineyard escaped both the spring frosts due to its elevation and the summer wildfire smoke issues [like Black Lightnin’] due to both its moderate elevation and how far south it was from the trajectory of the smoke plumes. It has a bit more red and blue fruits than the 2007 vintage and has a more interesting texture/layer/tension aspect to it. I’ve pondered which vintage I prefer: 2007 or 2008. I’m putting my money on this one by a nose. Win, place, or show, this vineyard is bound for the winners’ circle.

Stephen Tanzer’s International Wine Cellar – May 2011
Bright red. Explosive aromas of black raspberry, cherry, musky sassafras and licorice are lifted by a violet element. Then chewy, spicy and rich in the mouth, with deep dark berry and bitter cherry flavors and a hint of dark chocolate. This hefty pinot shows pretty serious depth. Finishes with dusty tannins and a lingering bitter cherry note. I’d definitely give this one some rest. 90+ points. Josh Raynolds

A relatively somber nose of dark berry fruit is nuanced by soft spice and soil tones that continue onto the rich, round and admirably concentrated middle weight flavors that culminate a detailed, pure and persistent finish. This is clearly built to age and should reward it handsomely as well. Lovely Juice. 91/2016+ Allen Meadows

A rich style, focusing on a core of blackberry and blueberry notes. The firm tannins give the flavors traction, ending with floral scents and a pleasing burst of dark fruit. Drink now through 2020. 91 Points. Jim Laube

Vinous – August 2017
Scherrer’s 2008 Pinot Noir Platt Vineyard is now fully mature, or close to it. Sweet tobacco, licorice, herbs, mint and dried cherry add nuance throughout. Medium bodied and gracious in feel, with tons of aromatic nuance, the 2008 is not likely improve materially here, although it has enough depth to hold for at least another 2-3 years. 90 points.
