Chardonnay
Scherrer Vineyard, 2012

$ 110.00

This is a rich and complex expression of Chardonnay from the Scherrer Vineyard. The grapes were whole-cluster pressed to French oak cooperage, where primary and malolactic fermentation occurred. All of these elements were allowed to integrate during its more than yearlong residence in wood. It was bottled without fining or filtration to respect both its delicacy and its more substantial qualities.

Winemaker’s Notes

What a kind growing season that was. Nothing much to punctuate the way the seasons unfolded to the next one. Happy vines making happy wine. While only a slight touch richer than the racy 2011 vintage, I have been harvesting this earlier than just a few years ago because I value that raciness that the acidity brings. So one could extrapolate between the 2010 and 2011 vintages and come up with a very good estimate of this wine. There’s a nice balance of perky citrus notes and apples, complicated toasty, nutty notes and a long, graceful mouth–watering finish.

  1. VinousAntonio Galloni, February 2015

    The 2012 Chardonnay Scherrer Vineyard is deep, powerful and explosive. Yellow stone fruits, smoke, graphite and melon open up in the glass, but this is a tightly-wound, powerful Chardonnay with a real sense of phenolic intensity. The 2012 offers plenty of mid-palate depth as well as focus. 92 points
