Winemaker's Notes
I have been working with this site since 2006 when it was ‘merely’ a fine component of our Russian River Valley and/or Sonoma County bottlings. Over time I realized it truly deserved to have at least a small amount bottled separately to showcase its lovely signature. Maraschino and tart pie Cherry, fresh plum, pomegranate, and oregano all cascade given varying amounts of air time. One bottle was going strong after 6 days’ open. The focus and intensity of the darker colored fruits rose as the days progressed, which portends great things down the road. The bright, crisp acidity which is a real signature of this part of Russian River Valley gives a good salivary response. It is right across the creek and somewhat uphill from the Keefer Vineyard. Yet it has more of a dark fruit note than its neighbor as I recall having worked with Keefer fruit once in the 2006 vintage.

Vinous – May 2019
The 2015 Pinot Noir Gunsalus Vineyard brings together a gorgeous array of plump, juicy fruit and a range of more savory/floral notes that add character. Rose petal, lavender, menthol and sweet red cherry are all wonderfully lifted in this polished, beautifully expressive Pinot from Scherrer. I especially like the sense of reserve here. 93 points. California Grapevine – July 2019
Medium-light to medium ruby; attractive, earthy, floral, raspberry and dark cherry fruit aroma with spicy notes and hints of forest floor; medium body; nicely balanced, red fruit flavors with crisp, bright acidity, and some richness and elegance in the mouthfeel; medium tannin; lingering aftertaste. Easy and enjoyable to drink now, though also worthy of a few more years of bottle aging. Very highly recommended. My Score: 91/100. Nick Ponomareff

Purely Domestic Wine Report – May 2020
The nose is cranberry, pomegranate and dried cherry with notes of graphite and herb. The palate entry is dense and steely black fruit. Beautiful core of cherry, silky hibiscus and well-integrated acidity. Drink 2020 – 2029. 95 Points. Doug Wilder
