Zinfandel
Old & Mature Vines, 2006

$ 80.00$ 160.00

This wine represents the labor of three generations of the Scherrer family — most of the vines that produced this wine were planted in 1912. It was bottled without fining or filtration to capture the beauty and personality of the Scherrer Vineyard. Although enjoyable in its youth, it should age and develop gracefully for 5 to 10 years after the vintage.

Winemaker's Notes

The 2006 OMV Zinfandel has exceeded my expectations. I am quite pleased with the choices made at harvest, which allowed the wine to settle into its vintage-determined balance, rather than some numerical stereotype. With its typical mixture of blue, red and black fruits, it has uncommon depth and texture that should satisfy die-hard Zin lovers. But it has a mysterious side too, and a mild earthiness and structure that promises long life in the cellar. It also offers great satisfaction for Pinot Noir enthusiasts, due in part to its balance and flexibility with food.

    Bright ruby red. Sexy, aromatic nose combines musky red fruits, incense and dried rose, with sexy Asian spice notes adding appeal: reminded me a bit of a powerful Pinot. Bright and precise in the mouth, with lovely lift and minerality to its red berry preserve flavor. Sappy and concentrated zinfandel, finishing with silky tannins and a whiplash of tangy red fruits. 92 points. Josh Raynolds
